Mountains and Markets

In the evening yesterday we met my second cousin Jane (Bills cousin) and her husband Jack. They've lived here for 20 years, and took us all out for a great meal at a local restaurant. Amy has again adopted a pseudo nana- she couldn't stop cuddling her!

Jane collected us for a walk this morning, as it was market day. I've had to stop buying cheese at markets as it completely stinks up the car and I have to bin it, but that doesn't stop me trying the samples offered. Yum...

The markets never cease to amaze me with the range of fab looking produce, and the locals all shop there so they must be great.

This village is very pretty, with timber chalets adorned with flowers and window boxes. Their are peaks in each direction, and you can see that in the winter it would be great for snow sports. Jack snr regaled us with stories over dinner last night about his climbing and skiing feats, including a summit of Mt Blanc on his 70th birthday!

Later Jack snr showed us around the chateau where they lived until last year, it was clearly a place they both loved and the most amazing building built in 1676.

Here's our hotel, we have a mini apartment which is mostly timber lined- sort of like a sauna he he. It's actually very comfy and the kids have a separate room so we aren't sharing snores here and I was able to knock up a nice dinner with some goodies from the market this morning. The kids had a dinner date in their room.

It's been a really nice stop, and somewhere we would never have found without the family connection, it's a well kept secret for the French! Off to Chamonix to hopefully see Mt Blanc tomorrow then head the car south for Provence.
