Europa Park

Baz and I could see the kids had been cathedral saturated, so after googling day trips from Strasbourg we settled on Europa Park. It was long day, involving a trip across the German border, 2 train journeys and a bus but as we have found so far, the public transport system is very easy to use, clean and comfortable.

We started out with a win, as on the German rail website the rail tickets had looked to be up to 60€ return, however the (lovely) lady at the Strasbourg counter fixed us up with a 24 hour pass covering all our options for 12€! Happy days.

We had to change trains at Offenberg in Germany, and had 40 minutes to kill so we took off for a short walk- which nearly went pear shaped when Baz tried to walk into what looked like a cafe with Jack but was actually a 'smoking room' complete with Hookah pipes.

As we walked further around the block every shop front had their pipes on display, and when a fight broke out on the street (at 11am!) we retreated to a 'g' rated cafe at the station for a calming ale before getting on the next train.

Here's a photo Amy took of me, on the very comfy top floor of the train.

Europa Park was an amazing day, and we wished we had gotten moving a little earlier so as to have had more time there, but holiday sleep ins are also important.

The park is divided into Europes countries, and each region has rides, shows and themed restaurants, snacks and scenery. It was really well done, and the kids voted it a better day out than Euro Disney.

This sign made us all giggle... Juvenile I know!

The kids went on heaps of rides and also enjoyed a long play in the water playground. We didn't catch any shows as we ran out of time but they looked pretty speccy. Lunch was a delicious bratwurst hotdog in the German section of the park, a bargain at 3€ each another distinct difference than Euro Disney. Good food at a reasonable price.

Lots of the rides included a good splash along the way including the kids favorite log 'flume' ride. We only rode the tame things, and there was at least half a dozen 'thrill' coasters on the map so would be a great day for more daring types too.

Jack enjoying a dodgem foos ball game.

We arrived back to Strasbourg and stopped for dinner on the way home from the station at a Chinese restaurant. Not typical Alsatian fare but the menu was yummy and included salt and pepper frogs legs which we shared. Check that off the list of things to try!

We farewell Strasbourg tomorrow and head to Burgundy, and we all found it to be very pretty and a pleasant visit in the end. Bon Nuit....
