Fort Saint-Andre

We woke up to a rainy morning so we took the opportunity to lie in for a while and didn't leave the house until the sunshine reappeared around lunch time.

Amy got her French 'thang' on with lots of stripes today. She was a living optical illusion!

We climbed the hill above our home to the fort to have a look around.

The view from the walls was amazing, and looking around a building from the 12th century was pretty cool. Jack also thought the walls were like the fortress of 'Helms Deep' in The Lord of the Rings and could imagine elves and dwarves battling orcs through the crenellations!

We found this plaque with ancient writing near the cemetery stones.

Being a Sunday, nothing was open near here so we hopped on a bus into Avignon to grab lunch and some provisions for dinner. We had a great lunch including the prettiest pints yet- you'll like these Andy...

We had a bit of time to kill before our bus home so again found ourselves meandering through streets and lanes checking out Avignon. I reckon this place has it all sorted- wine you can buy a taster for, vending machine style before you commit to a bottle. Very smart.

Next, guess what garden tool you could adapt as a musical instrument... Rake? Shovel? No.... A Saw! This guy was worth some change for sure, and Jack said the saw sounded like a woman's voice singing.

Our day of surreal sights continued on with the discovery of a shop dedicated to printed bog rolls... Too cool to use I think.

Finally some posters/street art so good I'd hang it on my wall. This is in a carpark near our place.

These are faux window scenes over in Avignon. We saw a few of those so there must be a local responsible for them.

The last full day in Avignon tomorrow, and I was going to try the Pont du Gare but the family has booed me down... It was seem the 5 minute walk to a fort was ok but 45 mins on a bus to a bridge... NOT. Oh well, hopefully the sun will be shining and we can laze by the pool, after all we are on hols! We only have one more week in France now so we need to soak up us much as possible!
